On this quick post, we can see some of the detailing done to the building exterior, mainly how the concrete texture present on the resin part (front wall) was reproduced on the building walls made from MDF.
The method used was inspired by the following video tutorial where primer is used to create raised details.
So the first step consisted in masking the areas that will be depressed.
A considerable layer of sandable primer was applied and left to fully dry. It was then sanded down to the masking tape thickness.
Removing the masks reveals a sharp delineation of all masked areas and smoothing down with some abrasive foam got us near to the prototypical look we are aiming for.
The final step was a further layer of primer, further smoothing down the harsh lines and resulting in a surface detail that approaches the one present in the resin part.
With both walls ready, the details in the roof top started to be applied. The roof gutter covers were made from plastic card, and copper wire was used to replicate its handles.

It is indeed a fun project. It is progressing very slowly, as having to deal with two 10 month old toddlers is a handful! 😀

Marco, When this masterpiece – and a masterpiece it will be – is finished, and a 1/144 Israeli F-15 or F-16 or a German Eurofighter is displayed emerging from the gate, let your toddlers look at it carefully and then make the ultimate promise: “One day, kids, all this will be yours.”
